Here's what you need to know about vein treatments!

Vein troubles are no fun! Luckily, there are a variety of treatments! American Vein & Vascular Institute is an excellent option for Colorado residents to receive vein services, including screenings and treatments. Let's take a look at some frequently asked questions about vein treatment, and how American Vein can help.

Who Qualifies for Vein Treatment?

Anyone with spider veins or varicose veins is considered eligible for vein treatment. Large and small veins can both be treated successfully.

Does Insurance Cover Vein Treatments?

This is a big one, as insurance coverage can be a determining factor in whether or not someone may seek treatment. The good news is that most health insurance providers, including Medicaid and Medicare, cover vein disease treatment. When you schedule an appointment and consultation at American Vein, they will review your coverage and payment options if you do not have insurance.

What Are the Available Treatment Options?

Once you partake in the diagnostic ultrasound, American Vein will offer a customized recommended treatment plan. Available treatment options include emerging technologies, compression therapy, radiofrequency ablation, laser ablation, sclerotherapy, phlebectomy, or a combination of these.

What Is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a type of treatment where a solution is injected into the veins. This solution induces a reaction that causes the veins to close off and shrink. American Vein uses a variety of strengths and solutions based on the patient's needs.

Is Phlebectomy the Same as Vein Stripping?

These treatments are not the same. A phlebectomy occurs on the surface area where the varicose vein is and uses local anesthetic. A small incision is created during the procedure, which leaves little to no scarring. Most patients can continue with their normal routine in just a few days! Vein stripping is more invasive, uses general anesthesia, and has a longer recovery time. It is also an outdated procedure, as modern technology has made a phlebectomy a better option!

Are Vein Treatments Painful?

This can depend on the individual's pain tolerance. Vein ablations typically cause mild discomfort and minor, temporary bruising. Treatment will, however, not be as uncomfortable as continuing to live with the symptoms of vein disease.

How Soon Can I Resume Normal Activity?

You will be encouraged to continue your regular activities immediately after treatment at American Vein. You will, however, be expected to wear compression stockings for about 2 weeks after treatment.

How Soon Will I See Improvements?

While everyone is different, many patients will immediately feel relief from their symptoms. Cosmetic improvements will usually be seen after a few weeks. Some patients may notice relief throughout the healing process, which is generally 6-12 weeks.

We hope that this will provide some clarity when it comes to vein disease and treatments. At American Vein, you will receive expert personalized care. If you have any further questions or inquiries about vein issues, reach out to them today!
