This new sentence reduces his original term by a year.

Joe Exotic was resentenced on Friday—this time, to 21 years in prison. Star of the Tiger King docuseries on Netflix, Exotic (real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage) was originally sentenced in January 2020 to 22 years, after he was convicted of hiring two men to kill Carole Baskin.

This resentencing shortens that original term by just a year.

"Please don’t make me die in prison waiting for a chance to be free," Exotic told a federal judge who resentenced him.

Exotic has been suffering from numerous health issues, including cancer, in which he was diagnosed with cancer in November.

Baskin and her husband, Howard Baskin, attended the proceedings. Baskin said she was fearful that Maldonado-Passage could threaten her, stating, "He continues to harbor intense feelings of ill will toward me."

And despite Exotic being in prison for the last few years, Baskin claims she's continued to receive "vile, abusive and threatening communications" from him.

She added that Exotic poses an even more serious threat to her now that he has a huge number of supporters due to the popularity of the Netflix series.
