The jury's still out: is "The Wheel of Time" enough to captivate the "Game of Thrones" crowd?

Looking for something new to watch? Before it even started streaming, The Wheel of Time was touted as Amazon Prime's answer to GoT. Sure, there are beautiful people with lyrical names and magical creatures, but how does this new show measure up? See for yourself.

The show premiered on November 19, with the first three episodes available all at once. After that, new episodes are released on Fridays, with the season finale airing on Christmas Eve. This classic good versus evil story is based on a set of fantasy novels by Robert Jordan. All in all, audiences may have up to 14 books' worth of content to transfer to the small screen.

Rosamund Pike is fantastic as one of the protagonists, Moiraine Damodred. I know, I know, the names are a bit much. She represents the lighter side of the magical spectrum, occupied by the Aes Sedai, a sisterhood of conjurers. So far, she's the leader of the fight against "The Dark One."

Daniel Henney is cast as Lan, Moiraine's bodyguard/soulmate who is bound to Moiraine and acts as her protector. If you're into the strong, silent type, he fits the bill perfectly. Check out this mini-video he did of how he came to play this pivotal role. Together, Lan and Moiraine are on the hunt for "the Dragon Reborn," a character set to both destroy and save the world.

As for the rest of the cast, they range from villains you love to hate and young adults who will capture your hearts. Adult themes are alluded to, but you won't have the shock value of some of the more mature GoT plot twists. There is a ton of gore and implied violence though, so keep the younger kids away when you're watching.

Bottom line, there's enough intrigue and adventure to whet your appetite and plenty of unanswered questions that will keep you coming back for more. The Wheel of Time is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, with new episodes out every Friday.
