Once again, Disney has sprinkled its magical fairy dust our way.

You can now can get your Broadway and Disney fix all at once with the addition of Newsies: The Broadway Musical to Disney+.

Set in New York City in 1899, the musical is about a group of newsboys who team up to fight against the unfair wages of two newspaper tycoons—all the while singing and dancing their way to a better life.

Filmed live at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, California, the Broadway show is based on the 1992 movie, which is based on the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City when youth newspaper hawkers campaigned for changes in the way they were compensated. The newspaper tycoons in question were Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst.

Wondering the outcome of the real events? Well, they ended up compromising, but newspaper distribution was halted for two weeks (quite a feat for the time). Wondering about the outcome in the movie? Well, you’ll just have to watch it.

The musical played on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre from 2012 until 2014. It then toured from 2014 until 2016. Music is by composer and songwriter Alan Menken, and lyrics are by songwriter Jack Feldman.

Both the movie and the Broadway show are available on Disney+. Here's an idea: Watch them both, back to back, to compare the storytelling!
