If you're looking for a luxurious hotel stay, you don't even have to wander very far from home.

Travel + Leisure Magazine has released its annual list of the best of the best in travel. Reader opinions were based on factors such as location, amenities, food, and customer service. Everything from safari lodges and dude ranches to high-rise hotels, island retreats, and historic boutiques made the list. The survey took place before the widespread COVID-19 pandemic, and while we might not be able to visit these places right now, we’ll be putting plenty of them on our bucket list!

A Virginia hotel, The Georges, grabbed the number 53 spot in the Top 100 Hotels in the World category. Located in Lexington in the western region of Virginia, The Georges shares the list with international and U.S. cities such as Munich, Germany; Sorrento, Italy; Playa del Carmen, Mexico; Vail, Colorado; Key West, Florida; and New York City.

In fact, only 12 other hotels in the U.S. made the top 100, and only six ranked above The Georges.

The boutique hotel features 18 elegantly designed guest rooms among two distinctive buildings that date to 1789 and 1809. There’s also a newly added venue space with an industrial and modern ambiance. Guests can enjoy Taps lobby lounge, Haywood’s restaurant and piano bar, and views of Main Street, Washington and Lee University, and the Allegheny Mountains. The Georges is on the Historic Hotels of America registry.

Want to see The Georges' competition? Here are the top 10 hotels in the world, according to Travel + Leisure, and none of them are in the U.S.:
