A delayed flight doesn't have to mean sleeping in a plastic airport chair. Sleepbox is a new micro-hotel option, now available at Dulles International Airport.

We've all been there—a delayed flight, a missed connection, and suddenly, hours of waiting loom ahead of you at a crowded airport. Travelers at Dulles now have a cheaper alternative to the nearby airport hotels: Sleepbox.

Touted as a smart micro-hotel, Sleeproom is a series of individual pods intended for a few hours rest. Inside, a weary traveler has just enough room to lie down, plugs to charge their devices, WiFi, and space for their luggage. Though the interior of the pods looks a bit sparse, they are worlds above trying to nap in a hard, modular airport chair.

At Dulles International Airport, the Sleepbox Lounge is located at Concourse A. Head to Gate A15 and look for signs posted near the Aerotrain Station. Of 16 private pods, one is ADA-accessible. Each room was designed for a single occupant, so be sure to book with that in mind. The average cost for a Sleepbox stay is $24 per hour or $120 if you stay overnight.

Using it is as easy as downloading the app and reserving a room. Once inside, you have the option of customizing the hue and brightness of your lighting, as well as the temperature. A concierge cleans each room after every visitor, and there is always someone on duty, 24 hours a day, year-round.
