Maryland's Ocean City has ranked as the No. 6 hottest summer destination in the nation by TripAdvisor. And honestly, are we really that surprised?

TripAdvisor has recently released its list of 2018's hottest summer destinations in the U.S., highlighting 10 seasonal hot spots. And among the top 10: Ocean City at No. 6. The list is based on the greatest increase in season hotel booking interest, according to a release. Here's what TripAdvisor had to say about Ocean City:

"The beach and three-mile Boardwalk is the main attraction at Maryland's iconic beach destination. The seafront is full of salt-water taffy, special concerts, beach bonfires, and kids' activities. Once a tiny fishing village, it's now known as the White Marlin Capital of the World."

The travel planning and booking site also broke down the average summer nightly hotel rate ($281), where to enjoy a fun experience (Ocean City Boardwalk), and the best place to eat with family and friends (Cafe Mirage), among other things. You can view the full highlight here.

"With the summer season about to begin, we are honored to be named one of TripAdvisor's Top 10 Hottest U.S. Destinations for Summer," Mayor Rick Meehan told The Dispatch. "Our town takes pride in offering visitors a fun summer destination the whole family will enjoy and at a great value. With our miles of beautiful, free beach, famous Boardwalk, great food, endless attractions, and free family fun events six nights a week, there is truly something for everyone in Ocean City this summer."

Other destinations included on TripAdvisor's list are: Mackinac Island (MI), Bar Harbor (ME), Block Island (RI), Lake George (NY), West Yellowstone (MT), Martha's Vineyard (MA), Anchorage (AK), Jackson Hole (WY), and Nantucket (MA).
