You'll notice some big changes at the airport the next time you fly out of town.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) has instituted several new COVID-19 safety measures at Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport. In an effort to curttail the spread of the virus, several major operational changes have been implemented.

Some of the things you'll notice right off the bat include:

  • Social distancing signs and stickers on the floor reminding you to stay 6 feet apart
  • Plexiglass barriers between airport staff and customers
  • Face coverings on all staff, TSA agents, and airport visitors
  • Hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the terminals

Another big change in the name of social distancing is the elimination of the free shuttle buses from long-term parking. The economy parking lots have been closed at both airports, and you'll pay economy prices at the short-term parking options. Don't worry, those lots are all within walking distance of the terminals. Metro is always a good option if you're flying out of Reagan National and don't feel like driving.

While restaurants and concession stands are open at each terminal, you may notice changes to dining-in service. Expect to see more grab-and-go options and possibly fewer choices on the menus as the airport foot traffic remains on the lighter side.

For more information on any of these new health and safety enhancements, visit the MWAA website. You can also follow along on their Twitter feed for updates from both airports.
