Ice skate next to revered works of art at one of the most unique ice rinks in the world.

A winter tradition is returning to the National Mall at the end of November! Work is currently underway to construct the ice rink at the Sculpture Garden outside the National Gallery of Art. The holiday ice rink in D.C. is the perfect winter activity for both novice and experienced ice skaters.

The rink will open on November 26 and remain open through March 5, 2023.

After a spin on the ice, guests can visit the Pavilion Café for a hot chocolate, espresso, or glass of wine. Lessons will be available during the season and skating enthusiasts can get a season pass.

Ice skating sessions run 45 minutes long and start every hour, on the hour, with a 15-minute break in between. The cost is $12 for adults, $9 for children under 12 and adults over 60, and includes two sessions. This year’s season pass will run you $225. For those who don’t know how to skate, lessons will be offered by the Washington Elite Skating School. Lessons start at $40 and the school offers packages and group lessons. You can bring your own skates or rent a pair for $6. Group rate information and skating lesson schedules are available at npa.gov.
