Telluride and Steamboat Springs have ranked as two of the top three "Best Small Towns to Visit in the USA," according to U.S. News.
C'mon, is it really that surprising that not just one but TWO Colorado small towns were named some of the best in the entire country? Of course, it isn't!
U.S. News' annual report looked at more than 700 towns with populations of less than 50,000 that offer an array of attractions and restaurants and have "a unique character all their own" to determine the top 20 small towns. And Colorado's own Telluride and Steamboat Springs ranked as No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, while Jackson Hole, Wyoming, took second place. Sedona, Arizona, and Lake Tahoe, California, rounded out the top five.
The rankings were based on travelers' opinions as well as analyses made by the editors of U.S. News. The editors then ranked each destination based on 10 categories: culture, sights, nightlife, food, people, family, adventure, romance, value, and accessibility.
With the gorgeous views and scenery that Telluride offers its residents and visitors, it's no wonder it nabbed the top spot. Plus, the ski slopes aren't half bad either. "Powder hounds will find 2,000-plus skiable acres ideal for novice, experts and everyone in between," says U.S. News.
Telluride has also ranked on U.S. News' "Best Places to Visit in November," "Best Ski Destinations in the USA," "Best Adventure Vacations in the USA," and "Best Spring Vacations" lists.
"Named for its famous hot springs, Steamboat Springs is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure junkies," writes U.S. News. Like Telluride, Steamboat Springs is a popular skiing destination. After all, it's not called Ski Town, U.S.A. for nothin'! Also, between the Steamboat Gondola, Fish Creek Falls, Yampa River Core Trail, and so much more, it's the perfect getaway destination no matter the time of year.
Steamboat Springs is also included on U.S. News' "Best Places to Visit in Colorado," "Best Summer Vacations in the USA," "Best Ski Destinations in the USA," and "Best Places to Visit in February" lists.
