Cake isn't the only option for your wedding day!

As time goes on, traditions evolve. One of these traditions is, of course, the wedding cake. Though wedding cakes are often seen as a wedding staple, it has become more common these days to attend weddings that don't have one. There are many different fun and unique alternatives to the wedding cake. I'm not a huge cake fan myself, so personally, I absolutely welcome other options. While this may sound crazy to some, I believe that weddings do not always need to stick to the expected. A different wedding treat will definitely make your wedding stand out!

Let's take a look at some of the options out there instead of a wedding cake. It may not be for you, and that's okay! If you're a classic cake fan, that's also pretty cool. We do not wedding shame here.

Cheese Cake

No, not that kind of cheesecake. I know, this isn't even a dessert! But just picture it: a cake made of cheeses. I, like many of you, I'm sure, love cheese. During the height of the quarantine, it seemed cheese boards blew up. Of course, I was an active participant, and still am, in the charcuterie craze. Why not turn that up a notch and incorporate it into your wedding? Get creative with it! You can even decorate your cheese "cake" with edible flowers.

Cheesecake

Yes, that kind. Cheesecake is a great dessert option if you don't enjoy traditional wedding cake. It also comes in a variety of flavors and can stack beautifully just like cake. Just one question: Do you consider cheesecake a type of cake or pie? Or is it neither? Either way, it's sure to be a hit at a wedding.

Cereal Cake

Marriage is a very adult decision to make, but that doesn't mean you have to lose all of your childlike charm! Opt for a treat that embraces the energy of your younger years with a rice crispy treat cake. You can use whatever cereal of your choosing, but picture it like a rice crispy treat that was made in a cake mold. That's the texture and shape we're going for here.

Cinnamon Roll Cake

Another take on breakfast for dessert! Who doesn't love a freshly baked cinnamon roll? Make cinnamon rolls into a tiered cake-like structure and you're sure to have many happy wedding guests. Maybe a breakfast classic will re-energize them to dance the night away! More likely though, it'll cause a sugar rush, but that comes with the territory for celebrations. If you're still against sweets, you can take inspiration from this option, but use savory ingredients instead.

Croquembouche

The fact that this word just looks and feels fancy should be enough to prove it's the perfect wedding dessert. Seeing it further solidifies its place at a wedding. This dessert also comes in a tower, similar to a tiered wedding cake. It's made from choux puff pastry and filled with crème pâtissière. Feel like adding a Parisian touch to your special day? Go for the croquembouche.

Cookie Table

I have to represent my hometown and talk about a Pittsburgh classic. A staple at many Pittsburgh weddings, a cookie table is a delightful treat for wedding guests. I'd rather have a cookie (or 5) than a piece of cake. While it is typically an addition to the wedding cake, I think a cookie table makes for a great stand-alone piece. Who's going to even be able to eat the cake with all those cookies? There are usually tons of different types of cookies contributed by friends and family of the couple.

There are plenty of fun and fresh choices to make when planning a wedding, and that includes the "cake." Whether you're a fan of tradition or something new (or both) there's something for you!
