Christian McCaffrey, the Stanford running back and son of former Broncos receiver Ed McCaffrey, is high on the Broncos’ list.

The Denver Broncos are looking to add another McCaffrey to their roster. Christian McCaffrey dominated at the NFL Scouting Combine last week and has been projected as a late first round or early second-round selection by media outlets. The Broncos are hoping for McCaffrey to get drafted well before their second-round pick.

“This kid is a really good football player… If you watch the tape, he’s a pro’s pro.” -Vance Joseph, head coach for the Denver Broncos

The Broncos have the No. 20 overall selection in the first round and while McCaffrey is more than worthy of No. 20, the Broncos have more urgent needs along their front sides. However, they aren’t ruling him out entirely. Each NFL team had a maximum of 60 interviews with rookie prospects during the Scouting Combine. The Broncos had 57 interviews and used one interview on McCaffrey.

McCaffrey announced back in December that he would be foregoing Stanford’s bowl game against North Carolina in order to focus on the NFL. He has been deemed an immediate impact and versatile player, meaning there are multiple ways he could contribute to a team, whether that be as a running back or even possibly a slot receiver or returner. “He’s obviously productive at a major conference (Pac-12) in college football… I obviously watched him on tape. He’s a Valor Christian kid. A Denver kid. That’s exciting. I’m happy for him. He’s had a great career and he’s going to be a great pro,” said Vance Joseph. As a sophomore in 2015, McCaffrey nearly won the Heisman Trophy when he rushed for 2,019 yards, caught 45 passes for an additional 645 yards, and scored touchdowns off both a punt and kickoff return. He set a NCAA record with 3,864 all-purpose yards. This past season, he rushed for another 1,603 yards.
