Craving some piping hot soup dumplings? Head out to Rockville to find the real deal.

The next time you get a hankering for something exotic, remember this article. Maryland locals know that if you want authentic Chinese specialties, you need to go to Rockville. While you may not find white-tablecloth service, you'll definitely have a meal to remember.

Restaurant Details: Bob's Shanghai 66

The best thing about going to a place like Bob's is the sheer variety of dishes you will find on their English and Chinese menus. Go with at least two other people so you can order a bunch of small plates and share. Must-try dishes include the fiery Ma Po Tofu that comes in a giant soup bowl and the crispy fried salt and pepper calamari.

Of course you need to get the xiaolongbao, or soup dumplings, and allow at least 2-3 pieces per person. Don't risk burning your mouth on the first one—it's customary to nibble a little hole on the side and slurp out some of the hot broth before downing the whole thing with a bit of gingery sauce.

Spicy baby bamboo shoots and cool cucumber salad are both fresh veggie dishes that go well with the piping hot dumplings. You can also round out the meal with some of their other small plates and fresh noodles. Click here to see their menu items, including a mouth-watering gallery of most of the dishes. It definitely comes in handy if you want to try some of the more obscure offerings. Pork chops and tea eggs over rice, anyone?

As for the atmosphere, it's strictly formica-topped tables and plastic menus. That doesn't mean it isn't a good option for date night, though! You can find everything from simple fried rice and stir fries to truly authentic Chinese delicacies so this is an excellent choice for a big family meal. Locals, rejoice! Bob's finally takes credit cards now so you don't have to hit the ATM first.

If you do head out to Bob's, don't get discouraged by the limited parking spots. This is a very popular brunch place on the weekends so just head out early and get there before the noon rush. You won't be sorry!
