If you like a cold one with your cornbread and coleslaw, you’ll be happier than a tornado in a trailer park.

With restaurants beginning to re-open after months of shutdowns due to COVID-19, several Cracker Barrel Old Country Store locations will start selling beer and wine for the first time. The Lebanon, Tennessee-based restaurant and retail shop had started selling alcoholic beverages in some stores before the shutdowns. They’re planning to continue to test out this new format in select locations.

The restaurant chain is popular for its casual atmosphere, down-home décor, and Southern comfort food like cornbread, apple butter, country-fried chicken, and other hearty fare.

Sandra B. Cochran, Cracker Barrel CEO, said in a statement to Nations’ Restaurant News,

"The past several months have presented unprecedented challenges for Cracker Barrel, the industry and our country. I believe our strategic priorities, such as accelerating our off-premise business, combined with the rapid actions we took to bolster liquidity, strengthen our business model and adapt our operations to the circumstances have positioned us well for the recovery period to come.”

Cracker Barrel currently has 664 stores with plans to open a couple more within the next few years. Approximately 505 stores across the country have reopened for limited dine-in. There are 20 locations in Florida that currently sell alcoholic beverages that include wine, popular beers, ciders, and orange and strawberry mimosas.

Like many restaurants, the post-quarantine menu is slightly smaller than normal. New items, such as Saturday fried pork chops and chicken pot pie, are being added to update the menu.

For those who might still have reservations about dining in, Cracker Barrel is still offering curbside pick-up and delivery through DoorDash.
