New Coke is making a comeback, but only for the summer.

In 1985, Coca-Cola committed a sin against its loyalists. Knee-deep in the cola wars, it changed the formula of the 100-year-old carbonated drink, and Coke lovers hated it. They boycotted, they rioted (not really), and they stocked their basements with original Coca-Cola, fearing shortages. Submitting to the backlash, the company replaced the original formula, calling it Coca-Cola Classic. But now, New Coke is returning this summer in conjunction with a special promotion of Netflix’s Stranger Things TV series.

The sci-fi series set in the 1980s returns for a third season this summer. The new season will be set in the year 1985, and special promos airing in U.S. Theaters will feature characters interacting with New Coke. Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of Stranger Things have been looking for ways to incorporate Coke in the series from the start.

New Coke will be available for a limited time beginning on May 23, 2019, but you won’t find it in stores. If you want to get your hands on the 1985 formulation you will have to visit Cokestore.com and purchase the special Stranger Things bundle. The bundle will have two 12-oz. New Coke cans, a limited edition Stranger Things Coca-Cola, and a Coke Zero glass 8-oz. bottle.

Fans will have a couple of other ways to get one of the elusive New Coke cans. In select cities across the U.S., New Cokes will be available from upside-down Stranger Things-themed Coke machines. Visitors to World of Coca-Cola stores in Las Vegas and Atlanta during the week of June 3 will also have the opportunity to purchase New Coke cans.

The new season of Stranger Things begins streaming on Netflix on July 4, 2019.
