All active-duty military personnel and veterans, along with their families, can receive free admission to all Colorado state parks throughout the month of August.

In honor of our active-duty military and veterans, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be offering free admission to all of Colorado's 41 state parks for the entire month of August.

"We greatly appreciate our active duty service members and veterans for their service to our country," said CPW Area Wildlife Manager Kris Middledorf in a statement. "We also recognize that it goes beyond the individual service member or veteran, it also includes the spouses and children who spend their lives supporting their family members who may be in harm’s way or serving in an essential role in the defense of our nation."

To receive your free pass, simply bring proof of military service to any Colorado Parks and Wildlife office or state park -- Veterans Affairs medical cards, active or retired military IDs, state-issued ID cards with the veteran seal, DD Form 2, DD214, or DD Form 2765 will be accepted. This offer is for veterans and active-duty military personnel, including active duty, Reserve, and National Guard members.

If you are already in the Colorado Parks and Wildlife's system as an active-duty military member or veteran, then no further proof is required.

Once eligibility has been confirmed, a military hang-tag pass will be issued. The pass is only valid when hung from the rear-view mirror of a service member-occupied car and grants admission to all passengers of the vehicle.

"There is no easy way to thank our military members for their selfless service," Middledorf added. "One thing we are proud to do is invite our veterans and active duty service members and their families to enjoy the outdoors with us at our State Parks and State Wildlife Areas.  We wouldn't have these beautiful public lands, rivers, and lakes to enjoy had it not been for the sacrifice of so many generations of veterans and current active duty service members."

Thank you to all of the brave men and women who have served or are currently serving our country, we thank you and salute you.
