Great Wolf Lodge and Cecil County are in talks to build a new resort.

Cecil County executives have announced plans to court the construction of a new water park resort in Perryville, Maryland. The proposed plan would consist of a $200 million Great Wolf Lodge Water Park and Hotel adjacent to the existing Hollywood Casinos at Chesapeake Overlook. The 44-acre project could be open for business by the summer of 2022.

The new Great Wolf Lodge would include up to 500 rooms, an indoor/outdoor waterpark, and conference and event space along with entertainment, shops, and dining. Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. has locations across the U.S and Canada that combine indoor and outdoor facilities, allowing visitors to enjoy water parks year-round. The Chicago-based company has resorts in Virginia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania and has been looking to expand in the Mid-Atlantic area.

The prime location off the I-95 corridor, combined with Perryville’s inclusion in Maryland’s Approved Enterprise Zone program, made the area attractive to the company. Our Community Now reached out to Great Wolf Resorts for comment on the proposed project.

“We’ve had some preliminary discussions with leaders in Perryville and Cecil County regarding the potential for a future Great Wolf Lodge, says Director of Communications, Jason Lasecki. "We feel Perryville could be a nice fit for us and look forward to continued dialogue with city and county officials, as well as the community at large, as we explore the prospect for a Great Wolf Lodge in Maryland.”

Great Wolf Lodge properties feature family-friendly rooms complete with bunk beds and woodland-themed decor. The indoor pools feature slides, activity pools, and splash areas, all kept at a toasty 84 degrees. The project will create a new water park destination for Maryland and add up to 600 permanent jobs.
