Taste the TV.

Have you ever watched a food cooking show or restaurant TV commercial, and thought, "I wish I could taste the food on my screen ..."? Well, you're not alone. Meiji University Professor Homei Miyashita has created a lickable TV screen that lets you do just that!

The prototype lickable screen, called Taste the TV (or TTTV), has a carousel of 10 flavor canisters that are then sprayed across the screen in a particular combination to create the taste of a specific food.

And it sounds like something that's come straight from Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory!

Miyashita told Reuters, "The goal is to make it possible for people to have the experience of something like eating at a restaurant on the other side of the world, even while staying at home."

The professor added that this "kind of technology can enhance the way people connect and interact with the outside world," especially in the era of COVID.

Working with a team of 30 students, Miyashita built the TTTV prototype over the last year. A commercial version would cost about 100,000 yen ($875) to make.

What do you think of this Willy Wonka-esque creation? Will we see Taste the TV worldwide in the not-so-distant future? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
