Talk about scary! Whirlpool is recalling over 26,000 glass cooktops for a potential malfunction that can make them turn on by themselves.

This recall on Whirlpool glass cooktops stems from a mechanical issue that could lead to a fire or burn hazard if the cooktop turns itself on. To date, 133 reports of this nature have been filed with Whirlpool and 14 incidents include fire or burn damage to nearby objects. Additionally, two of the reports described personal injury due to burns.

Product Details

The recalled cooktops come in "radiant" and "radiant downdraft" models and were sold under three trade names: Whirlpool, JennAir, and KitchenAid. Here are photos to show where you can view the product information including serial numbers and model numbers:

Retailers: Lowe's, Home Depot, Best Buy, and other major retailers where Whirlpool products are sold, including online, from March 2017 to August 2019

Recall Resolution Process

If you have one of the cooktops included in the recall, you should stop using it immediately. Whirlpool recommends turning off the unit at the circuit breaker level to be safe. Make sure there are no flammable objects near or on the cooktop service while you wait for resolution. Contact Whirlpool, and a replacement unit will be installed for you at no charge.
