Former Richmond Police Deputy Chief Steve Drew will take over as the new chief of the Newport News Police Department.

On Thursday, May 24, the Newport News Police Department announced that Steve Drew, a Richmond Police Deputy Chief, would serve as the new chief and oversee 600 sworn officers and non-sworn members. Drew brings 24 years of experience to the job, which he will start on July 2.
"Being selected as the next chief of police for the Newport News Police Department is the greatest honor of my career," Drew said in a statement. "I am humbled but also incredibly excited to be selected to lead this excellent organization."

Cynthia Rohlf, city manager, said, "I am excited that Steve is joining the Newport News team to lead our nationally accredited Police Department.
