The Humane Society of Fremont County is looking for donations to help 51 cats that were removed from poor conditions in a Cañon City home.
The cats' previous owner was being evicted from her home in Cañon City and had reached out on Facebook to seek help for the animals. The Humane Society of Fremont County became notified of the post, and the 51 cats have since been removed from the situation. It took two truckloads and two trips to bring the cats to the shelter. A majority, if not all, the cats had severe medical issues when they arrived. On their Facebook page, the Humane Society wrote:
"Contrary to what people are writing online about these cats being very healthy, several of the kittens have upper respiratory infections, while some of the adults also have URI. Two cats have ulcerated mouths missing the tops of their lips. And almost ALL of the female adult cats are pregnant."They also made note that each of the 51 cats was "checked individually, vaccinated, dewormed, and received anything else that cat may have needed." The organization is now seeking donations in order to help feed and continue to care for the cats. So far, $2,000 has been raised. They are also in dire need of kitten formula (KMR), cat and kitten food, toys, and more. You can view their full wishlist here.
