Hesperus Ski Area announced on Facebook that it would be suspending its winter operations until there's a significant amount of snowfall. Otherwise, it looks like the ski resort will remain closed for a little while. On its website, Hesperus says that they're simply waiting for snow and for skiers and boarders to keep an eye on the snow report for any updates or news. It's been a long ski season of waiting for snow, and while many ski areas across the state have yet to close, Hesperus seems to have had enough. Which is totally understandable since the resort has only received a total of 33 inches of snow this season. That's it!
Plus, Durango's snowpack levels are about half of what they should be for this time of year, so the resort's decision to shut down was probably for the best.
"It's been a challenging season with warmer and drier weather in the region," Kim Oyler, spokeswoman for Mountain Capital Partners, said in an email to the Durango Herald.
With March and April being known as Colorado's snowiest months, there's still a chance for Hesperus to open for the remainder of its ski season. But we're just gonna have to wait and see if the snow decides to show up.
