Santa Barbra surf instructor Matthew Coleman, 40, is accused of killing his two children with a spearfishing gun in Mexico last August.

According to reports, Coleman was indicted in September on two counts of foreign first-degree murder of U.S. nationals. He could face the death penalty if convicted.

Authorities with the FBI state that on August 7, while the family was packing for a trip, Coleman abruptly took his 2-year-old son, Kaleo, and 10-month-old daughter, Roxy, to Rosarito, Mexico. Out of concern, Coleman's wife, Abby Coleman, filed a missing persons report and tracked her husband's phone to Rosarito. The couple had not been arguing, per reports, and Abby believed her husband would eventually return home with the kids.

Tragically, the children would never make it back home.

Reports indicate that two days later, on August 9, Coleman took his kids to a ranch, where he killed them with a spear gun, moved the bodies into some brush, and then disposed of the spear gun and bloody clothes near a creek. He returned to his hotel a few hours later and was then arrested as he tried to cross the border back to the United States. Hours later, the children's bodies were later found by local police.

Police said Roxy was stabbed approximately 12 times in the area around her thorax, while Kaleo had been stabbed 17 times.

Prior to the death of his children, Coleman allegedly became obsessed that there was a conspiracy against him and his enemies were using secret hand signals to communicate. Coleman began researching QAnon with his wife, but she said he "became significantly more paranoid that people around him were involved in a conspiracy."

The full extent of Coleman's conspiracies is detailed in a 30-page application for a search warrant filed by the FBI.

Coleman allegedly confessed to the FBI that he killed his children. And prior to doing so, Coleman said he "laid in bed seeing all the pieces being decoded like The Matrix, and he was Neo."

"He said visions and signs revealed that his wife, A.C. [Abby Coleman], possessed serpent DNA (M. COLEMAN mentioned that he was not sure if his wife was a shapeshifter) and had passed it onto his children and that all things were pointing to the idea that his children have corrupted DNA that will spread if something is not done about it," according to the affidavit.

"Eventually, [Coleman] saw the big picture that he had to kill his children to prevent them from becoming an alien species that would release carnage over the Earth," the affidavit reads, paraphrasing Coleman's alleged statements to authorities. "Coleman explained that he was either crazy or the only person that is left on Earth that is a true man."

The search warrant application filed by the FBI looks to gain access to two Instagram accounts used by Coleman. Authorities believe there may be more evidence regarding his mental state in his direct messages, which they currently cannot see.
