With six Northern Virginia Metro stations out of commission for the summer, commuters will have to get creative.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has ordered the closure of six NoVA stations south of National Airport for extensive planned platform repairs. Commuters will have to come up with alternatives from Saturday, May 25, until Sunday, September 8, 2019.

FREE parking will be available at the Van Dorn Street, Franconia-Springfield, and Huntington station garages.

In an effort to provide multiple transit options during the closures, WMATA will be offering commuters FREE shuttle bus service from both the Blue and Yellow Line routes.

During rush hour, the shuttle buses are slated to run every five minutes. Off-peak hours, they will run every 10 minutes. Shuttles will run during the regular rail system hours, seven days a week except for the Landmark-Pentagon express bus.

Blue Line alternatives include:

  • An express shuttle will run between the Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon Metro stations.
  • A local shuttle from Franconia-Springfield will go to Van Dorn Street, King Street-Old Town and National Airport Metro stations.
  • An express shuttle will run between Landmark Mall and the Pentagon Metro station. This shuttle has weekday service only, Monday-Friday from 4:45 a.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Yellow Line alternatives include:

  • An express shuttle will run between the Huntington and Pentagon Metro stations.
  • A local shuttle from the Huntington Metro station will go to Eisenhower Avenue, King Street-Old Town, Braddock Road, and Crystal City Metro stations.

In addition to the free shuttle options above, commuters can also take convenient Metrobus routes to get beyond the closures.
