When the need appears, World Central Kitchen answers with a hot meal.
The world is watching as tens of thousands of Ukrainians flee to neighboring European countries every day. Chef José Andrés and the good folks at World Central Kitchen (WCK) have mobilized to coordinate humanitarian food initiatives to meet the growing need.
It’s below freezing outside the Lviv railway station where Ukrainians arrive through the night from the east. @natemook & the WCK team brought bograch, a hearty stew, to keep families warm. Families have been leaving Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict in February, often with just a few bags of their belongings. Food security and shelter remain major concerns.
Since Russia began their attack on Ukraine last week, WCK has activated restaurants in Ukraine and 4 surrounding countries, serving hundreds of thousands of meals to families—and we'll be here as long as we're needed. Thank you to all making this possible. 🙏 #ChefsForUkraine pic.twitter.com/9ohlO48Rpe

In addition to cooking and distributing meals, WCK is coordinating with local restaurants on the ground to mobilize large-scale donations of food and labor. This is a massive undertaking to organize countless volunteers. Established in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, this non-profit organization has an established global reputation for providing humanitarian assistance when and where it is needed most.
One of our @WCKitchen partners heard a train was coming to Hrubieszów, Poland filled with Ukrainian refugees who had gone days without a hot meal. Working with the crisis center, we got meals on the train so they could eat before leaving! This is true WCK way! #ChefsForUkraine 🇺🇦 pic.twitter.com/98KkDUwOlU
