Get ready for some traffic, folks – Here is your breakdown of this week's I-395 lane closures in Northern Virginia.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban are reporting that the rolling construction zone will be further north on I-395 this week, centered around bridge repairs in the King Street region. This weekend will see day and night lane closures and major detours to get onto I-395.

Road Work Schedule for 4/29/19–5/5/19

Overnight road work for this week (single lane closure on the right) will be daily from midnight to 4:30 a.m., Monday, April 29 through Thursday, May 2, for I-395 southbound main lanes.

All-day roadwork for this week (multi-lane closures) will be from 10 p.m. Friday, May 3, to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, for I-395 northbound main lanes. There may be breaks in work during the overnight hours from midnight until 4:12 a.m. on Saturday and 5:12 a.m. on Sunday.

Since the bulk of the work is related to bridge repairs near the King Street ramps to I-395, the lane closures will be both northbound and southbound near the King Street exit (the area of West Braddock Road).

The big detour for this week will be for drivers on King Street trying to get on to I-395 South. You will have to take a detour and go north on I-395 from King Street, get off at exit 6 in Shirlington, then get back onto the highway going south. Fun!

HOV will be running in the direction most affected by the lane closures over the weekend, so watch for that as well.

In addition to packing their patience before getting on I-395, drivers can try taking alternate routes. The GW Parkway and Route 1 are both good options for going north through the work zone areas.

This is all part of a big I-395 infrastructure repair plan that involves many of the area bridges. The work is slated to go on for the next upcoming three weekends.
