Officials will randomly draw the names of those who will be granted access to the camping reservation system for overnight camping in the park.

Camping season is nearly upon us, and officials at Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) are prepping for the season ahead. However, if you're hoping to get overnight camping reservations, make sure you submit your name to the lottery—'cause that's the only way you'll get a pass in 2021.

On Tuesday, March 23, officials at RMNP will draw names at random. If selected, you'll be granted access to the reservation system and can submit trip requests for July through October.

If interested, visit the park's website for the full details on how to enter.

The following information is for overnight backpacking camping permits only. This system is NOT for camping reservations in park campgrounds accessed by vehicles or for park entrance fees," writes the site.

Applicants in the drawing are asked to keep an eye on their emails to see if they've been selected in the permit lottery. (Park officials checking your spam folder, just in case.) If you don't hear from the park via email, your name was not drawn.

RMNP officials have answered the following questions (pulled directly from the site):

  • What should I put in the subject line of the email? Backpacking Camping Random Drawing
  • What should I put in the body of the email? First and last name only
  • What email address should I send from? The email where you would like to be notified if your name is randomly drawn
  • May I submit more than one entry per household? Limit one entry per household
  • To what email address should I send my entry? e-mail us
  • May I submit a reservation request application for May and June? May and June reservation request window is currently closed
  • Is this drawing first come, first served? No. This is a random drawing
  • If I get selected in the random drawing, what months can I make a backpacking camping permit request? July through October
