The governor says the masks are a necessary tool to slow the spread of COVID-19.
On Thursday, Gov. Jared Polis signed a new executive order giving business in Colorado the ability to refuse service to customers who aren't wearing face masks. The order went into effect this afternoon.
"It’s absolutely within the rights of a private business to refuse service to a customer not wearing masks," Polis said.
The use of masks, along with social distancing, are simple measures that can allow us to continue to enjoy our favorite outdoor activities like parks & open spaces. As we continue to deal with the reality of the virus still present, we need to protect ourselves & those around us. pic.twitter.com/9Xjb3C4wXf

However, Polis has not issued a statewide mask mandate, like the one currently in place for Denver.
"Wearing a mask is one of the easiest and most impactful things (we) can do," Polis said. "... So don't be 'that guy' and wear a mask."
In addition to the new order, Polis also discussed the program that the state is working on to allow nursing home residents to receive visits from family members, as well as touching on the use of federal money towards schools with underserved students.
