The dogs will be placed under the care of animal welfare agencies throughout the state.

A home in the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado was searched by the Costilla County Sheriff's Office and other agencies on Tuesday, where authorities seized 102 mixed-breed dogs, including newborn puppies. Two deceased animals were also found on the property, which is located just west of Mesita, Colorado.

"The animals will remain in the care of animal welfare agencies throughout the state, including the Dumb Friends League, pending the owner’s due-process and cost of care hearing by the court," according to the sheriff's office.

The Costilla County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado Human Society will be heading up the investigation as to what transpired inside the home. Any potential charges against the owner will be sent to the district attorney's office.
