The state will move into phase two, beginning with people in the 2A group on March 23, 2021.

Maryland is one step closer to getting the entire state vaccinated. On Thursday, Governor Larry Hogan announced the state will be moving into phase two of the vaccination schedule for COVID-19, effective March 23, 2021. Beginning immediately, everyone over the age of 60 will be allowed to pre-register on the state’s website in order to be matched with appointments. Additional groups in phase two will be added in March and April, and the state will transition to phase three on April 27.

At a meeting with the Coronavirus Task Force at the White House this week, governors were told to expect a substantial increase in vaccines during the week on March 29. It was that guidance that led Governor Hogan and health officials to announce the move into the next phase of vaccine distribution.

The vaccinations will be released as follows: 

• March 23
  • Phase 2A: Residents age 60 and older
• March 30
  • Phase 2B: Residents age 16 and older with underlying medical conditions
• April 13
  • Phase 2C: Residents age 55 and older, essential workers in construction, food services, financial services, utilities, and IT
• April 27
  • Phase 3: All Maryland residents age 16 and older

Governor Hogan also reiterated that vaccine demand is still greatly outweighing supply and that is expected to continue for several weeks. The state is currently operating six mass vaccination sites with plans to open two more and officials will also begin allowing primary care doctor practices to administer vaccines. To help get the vaccine out to rural areas and housebound individuals, Maryland is launching a new mobile vaccination clinic that will be staffed by the University of Maryland School of Nursing.

Vaccinations will continue to be prioritized for people in phase one that still have not received one.
