Some members of Congress are showing their appreciation for the troops.

The National Guard is currently stationed at the U.S. Capitol ahead of President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20, and to show their appreciation, several members of Congress—most notably Representatives Michael Waltz and Vicky Hartzler—hired a local D.C. pizza shop, "We, The Pizza," to deliver some pies to the guards.

The initial order was for 150 pizzas, but then Micheline Mendelsohn, the deputy CEO of the company that owns the local pizza shop, wanted to help out.

"We wanted to help, so we matched (the order)," Mendelsohn told TODAY. "Then we realized we weren’t even sending nearly enough so we just started donating to troops."

So far, the local shop has donated roughly 700 pizzas to the troops, with another 300 planned to be delivered Friday, January 15. We, The Pizza has also put together a way for the general public to donate pizzas online. You can choose the amount, how frequently you want the order to be delivered (i.e., one-time, weekly, monthly, etc.)—and the shop plans to match each order.

In addition to donating pizzas, We, The Pizza is working with various local restaurants to "provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner so the troops have a variety"—the shops include Buffalo & Bergen, CHIKO, District Doughnuts, The Duck and The Peach, Maketto, Pizzeria Paradiso, and RIS.
