The new executive order will be in effect until July 1.

On Monday, Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order that extends the "safer-at-home" directive to July 1, with new modifications being put in place so residents can enjoy the outdoors safely.

Now called "Safer at Home and in the Vast, Great Outdoors," this order encourages people over the age of 65 or with underlying health conditions "to also enjoy Colorado's outdoor spaces at a safe social distance, in addition to staying at home as much as possible."

"It may feel like we are getting back to normal, but the virus is still here, and it could surge back the moment we let our guard down," Polis wrote in a statement. "We are still far from normal. Coloradans have to remain diligent, and must continue staying home or in the great outdoors away from others as much as possible, wearing masks when we leave the house, and washing our hands."

In addition to outdoor recreational areas, swimming pools and playgrounds can open at limited capacities.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) released a draft of guidelines for houses of worship, child care, and outdoor/personal recreation and is seeking input from stakeholders on that draft. Feedback can be submitted to the CDPHE until Wednesday, June 3, at noon. A final version will then be released on Thursday.

If you're looking to get tested for COVID-19, Polis encourages people to visit the free testing center at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Other testing sites can be found on the CDPHE's website.
