Bidding is now open, and offers will be accepted until Friday at 4 p.m.

The shop, Spiffy Pets, was doing business as Pet City and maintaining operations at Town Center at Aurora mall. The City of Aurora seized the pet shop's animals after an unpaid tax bill of roughly $86,000.

Those animals, which include 44 puppies, 24 mice, nine hamsters, and six rabbits, are now available for bidding until this Friday at 4 p.m.

Because of the restrictions placed because of the coronavirus pandemic, those who bid on the animals will not see them in-person until the auction is over. Winners can claim their pets at the Aurora Animal Shelter on Sunday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please note that winners will only be allowed into the shelter one at a time.

All participants will go through a background check, specifically for animal abuse, and anybody prohibited from owning animals will be vetted out of the auction. You can register for the auction, as well as see the animals available for bidding, here.

Some of the puppies required medical attention for various respiratory problems when they were seized by the city. (Those problems are not related to coronavirus.) They were treated by the Dumb Friends League, Aurora Anima Shelter, and others. All puppies treated are now healthy enough to find their new forever homes and families.
