A career fair will be held later this month to fill the hundreds of vacancies.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser needs you. The D.C. government has more than 500 job vacancies, in part, due to the city launching and expanding several government programs in the 2022 budget. In addition, other job openings were created due to people leaving their jobs.

"We created more opportunities with a big infusion of investments in programs from our last budget season, and we also have openings for people who have moved on to different things," said Bowser at a press conference on Thursday. "And we anticipate having even more opportunities as we go into the summer."

So, how will Bowser and the D.C. government fill the hundreds of vacant jobs? A virtual career fair.

The virtual career fair, called "New Year, New Career," will be held from March 16–17 and is the largest-ever virtual hiring fair D.C. has put on.

"A lot of people are moving around and a lot of companies are looking for great staff," added Bowser.

The available D.C. government jobs include positions at the D.C. Public Library, the city’s health department, the Department of Corrections, D.C. Public Schools, and the Office of the Attorney General.

If you're interested in one of the vacant jobs, the career fair is a great way to speak with hiring managers and potentially partake in an interview (via the phone or video chat).

According to Bowser, some D.C. government agencies hiring may be offering people jobs on the spot.
