The bookstore will start a new chapter as it moves to a new location.

After 27 years, the Tattered Cover in LoDo will be closing its doors. But fear not, because it's not a forever goodbye.

The bookstore is moving into McGregor Square, a few blocks to the northeast of its original location at 1628 16th Street. The Tattered Cover announced on Monday that it will move into the new development in the first quarter of 2021. It will be adjacent to Coors Field, at 20th and Wazee streets.

"We are incredibly excited for the opportunity and proud to be part of McGregor Square," said co-owner and CEO Len Vlahos in a statement. "The McGregor Square project will be a boon to the ballpark and LoDo neighborhoods, and, given the strong local flavor of the project, is a great fit for The Tattered Cover."

The new location will utilize the first two levels of the building and feature a grand staircase, one that's reminiscent of the original LoDo store and the former location in Cherry Creek. "This store will be warm and inviting with significant natural light," said Vlahos.

Dick Monfort, chairman and CEO of McGregor Square and owner of the Rockies, said that the timing was perfect, adding that the store has been "been quintessentially Denver for 50 years and it is exactly the type of retail partner we were hoping to have at McGregor Square."

Tattered Cover opened its LoDo location in 1994, according to the release, and was among the storefronts that helped revitalize the neighborhood.

Currently, the independent bookstore has closed its locations, which includes three in Denver, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
