The popular women's clothing boutique is liquidating its inventory in the wake of the bankruptcy filing. Fans of the plus-size clothing retailer have one last chance to shop before the stores close forever.

In the end, 222 locations will be closing all over the country, leaving thousands of people unemployed. Stores are having final sales where even the light fixtures can be purchased. A total of 33 states will be losing the Avenue in shopping centers and malls by September. As the "retail apocalypse" marches on, scores of brick-and-mortar shops are finding it harder to stay afloat.

Just last month, Charming Charlie closed its doors, and countless other retailers (Dillard's and JC Penney, for example) are said to be deep in the red. Are people spending less, or are they just spending it all online?

As of press time, you could still shop through the Avenue website, but it's slim pickings. All sales are final, so be careful with your selections! Everything is already marked off both online and in-store, with 30-70 percent discounts on most items.

If you've never shopped there before, Avenue is known for carrying trendy clothing, accessories, shoes, and lingerie for sizes 14 and up. They have plenty of scarves, fashion jewelry, bags, and shoes that would fit people of all sizes. Personally, this news makes me pretty sad. It's difficult to find high-quality clothing in extended sizes, and this was one of the few retailers that carried them exclusively.
