We already buy almost everything on Amazon, so why not our prescriptions?

Amazon Pharmacy just made its debut to deliver prescription medications across the country. According to a company press release, customers can skip the trip to their local drugstore and manage their meds online with the Amazon app or website.

In addition to the convenience factor, Prime customers not using their insurance benefits can take advantage of discounts on both brand-name and generic drugs, as well as free delivery.

“We understand the importance of access to affordable medication, and we believe Prime members will find tremendous value with the new Amazon Prime prescription savings benefit,” said Jamil Ghani, Vice President, Amazon Prime. “Our goal is for Prime to make members’ lives easier and more convenient every day, and we’re excited to extend the incredible savings, seamless shopping experience, and fast, free delivery members know and love with Prime to Amazon Pharmacy.”

Getting started with the service is easy. All you do is go to the website, link with your Amazon account if you have one, and enter some personal information. As you request prescriptions to be filled, they will be verified with your healthcare provider then shipped out just like any other purchase.

The Twitterverse is on the fence, with some folks for and some against the new service, citing both convenience and concerns about privacy. Others are just sipping their tea, watching to see how the other pharmacies react.
