Rapper DMX Dies at Age 50.

Updated 10:44 a.m., Friday, April 9: RollingStone reports that DMX died on Friday at White Plains Hospital in New York. His family released this statement: 

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” his family said in a statement. “Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”

As reported by TMZ, DMX died after suffering an overdose a week ago. His brain function never returned and he suffered organ failure by Thursday while on life support. Throughout the week, he was surrounded by family: mom, fiancee, and many of his children.

Rapper DMX remains hospitalized after suffering a heart attack over the weekend. The rapper, 50, remains in a coma and on a ventilator in the intensive care unit, per reports.

A prayer vigil has been planned for Monday evening at 5 p.m. outside White Plains Hospital in New York.

"On Friday night, April 2nd, 2021, our brother, son, father, and colleague DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, was admitted to White Plains (NY) Hospital, facing serious health issues,” said DMX's family through a publicist. "We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges."
