There are several lively areas around the DMV, all located on the Potomac River, and rather than spending time driving or using public transit on land to get to all of them, you can enjoy a water taxi ride to connect you to all the action.

How fun would it be to spend a day with your significant other or group of friends enjoying the water taxi ride, bouncing around the harbors, taking in the sites, and maybe stopping at a bar for a drink or two along the way?

Plus, it’s a great way to get outdoors and on the water this summer without much planning.

Water taxis operate between four access points: The Wharf, the Georgetown Waterfront, the National Harbor (in Maryland), and Old Town, Alexandria (in Virginia). You can start and finish anywhere you like.

There are several options when buying passes to use the water taxi. If you know this is something you’re going to be using a lot, you can get a year-round pass for an unlimited number of rides at just $175 per person. This also may be something interesting to consider if your commute involves making your way from one harbor to the other. You would probably be able to save a bit of money and time without all the driving and the traffic and the metro.

But let’s say you just want to try it out and not commit on such a grand scale. There are also one- and two-day passes available for purchase. For $30, you can get the one-day pass and take the taxi all day long for an unlimited number of rides that day.

With any of the passes, you’ll have access to all the routes available. You can find out more information about the pass options here
