Adding a puppy to the family is like having a full-time job, that’s why a Scottish brewery – opening soon in Ohio – will be offering a week of paid Paw-ternity leave for its employees with new puppies or rescued dogs.
The beer company BrewDog is a Scottish brewery that will be opening a location in Ohio in spring of this year. It will be the first brewery in the United States to offer the paid Paw-ternity leave benefits when a new pup is welcomed to the family. 
BrewDog wants to ensure that not only are their employees taken care of, but the puppies are too. Since it can take time for puppies to become well-adjusted to their new surroundings, employees get a week to accompany their pups during that period of adjustment. The goal of the paw-ternity leave is to take the stress out of getting a new puppy or rescue dog. Not only do they offer paw-ternity leave, but they also allow their employees to have the added benefits of maternity and paternity leave. Co-founders James Watt and Martin Dickie started the company back in 2007 as “Two Guys and Their Dog,” wanting to create a dog-friendly atmosphere at the brewery. It’s encouraged that employees also bring their dogs to work.
