If you're planning on mailing your presents this year, you better get a move on.

Online shopping is a booming business this year, and all of those extra deliveries have shipping companies spread pretty thin. Customers are being urged to get their packages sent off earlier than ever to ensure delivery by Christmas Eve.

Here's a breakdown of the 2020 deadlines by carrier:

U.S. Postal Service (USPS)

Give yourself at least a full week if you plan on using USPS first-class mail and head to the post office by December 18. Even Priority shipping is a bit delayed, with deliveries running 3 to 5 business days instead of the usual 2 to 3. The only sure thing is USPS Priority Overnight, but you'll pay a pretty penny for that certainty.

United Postal Service (UPS)

December 15 is the cutoff date if you want to go with UPS Ground. UPS 3-Day Select needs to be in by December 21, but you also have 2-Day and overnight options as well.

FedEx

You'll have a ton of options if you do your shipping through FedEx, with services like FedEx 2-Day that gives you all the way until December 22. Score one for the procrastinators! The cheaper option, FedEx Ground, has to be sent off by December 15.

Whichever carrier you choose, make sure to pack up those gifts securely, with plenty of padding. Meeting these deadlines is just the first step to making it under the tree on time!
