An Uber driver from Lakewood received a scratch ticket as a tip and what started as $30 winnings soon turned into much more ... like $140K more.
James P., an Uber driver from Lakewood, was merely doing his job. After receiving a $5 scratch ticket as a tip by one of his passengers, he did what anyone would do: he played it. From there, he won $30 which he used to buy more scratch tickets. "I kept winning these smaller amounts and just kept rolling it over and over into more tickets," James told the Lottery. "I thought to myself, 'I'm never going to hit the end of these tickets.' It just kept going and going." Fast-forward six weeks later, and James now has $140K in his pocket. James said that he can't help but feel that fate intervened. He explained, "I very rarely get the same passenger multiple times, but I'd picked up this guy a few times. I haven't been able to find him yet and tell about this, but I hope I do."
He plans on giving a large portion of the winnings to his parents, who have helped him financially in the past. With the remaining money, James has decided to "soup up" his car so he can keep driving for Uber.
