Missing your favorite wine bar or pub? Have one built in your basement.

Sitting at the bar with a glass or wine or a cocktail is the perfect end to a stressful day for a lot of people. But hanging out at your favorite bar has been difficult if not impossible to do during the pandemic. But what if you could recreate the experience at home? If you are up for a little home remodeling, a Maryland company may be able to help.

Abrecht Design, a specialty firm in Towson, Maryland, designs unique bars and restaurants in commercial spaces around the DMV. The company is now lending its talents to recreating these beautiful spaces in residential basements.

Abrecht has created a variety of facades and storefronts in places like the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore and Taqueria Nacional in D.C. A  local homeowner wanted to have a place in their home to enjoy a glass of wine that resembled a cozy Italian wine bar. So they hired Abrecht Design to bring their vision to life.

Pictures on the company's website show a transformation of a basement room into a vintage-looking storefront complete with mosaic tile entry and gold leaf lettering on the windows. Carpet and drywall were replaced with wood flooring, wood beams, and wall-to-wall wine racks. The inside of the bar comes to life with details like aged brick walls, Italian vendor signs, and old black and white photos.

Wine bar not your style? Abrecht can also create an authentic English pub or tavern. Your basement rec room can be turned into a lively pub with an impressive weathered storefront and glass plane windows. Projects have included features like wall-to-wall reclaimed wood, vintage-looking bars, stained glass accents, and custom brickwork. How much would the bar of your dreams cost? Probably more than your average basement remodel. But if you can dream it and finance it, why not?
