Oh, if these walls could talk ...

If you’re like me, you have a weird—some might say morbid—curiosity when it comes to abandoned buildings. (Raise your hand if you’ve ever binged that show Life After People!) I absolutely love looking at photos of places that haven’t been used or inhabited in decades (or centuries), because it’s like looking into the past.

This exchange from my favorite show Doctor Who sums it up well:

And so, when I heard about this house over in the UK (Blaenrhondda, Wales, to be exact) that had been boarded up decades ago and abandoned with everything still inside, I knew I had to share it with you all. Normally, when we see photos of abandoned buildings, they come with stories of how and why they were abandoned, and the photos are mere skeletons of the places they once were. In this case, the photos of the house show the vintage furniture and dated interior design, reflecting a deeper dive into the past than other similar structures often show.

Here is the living room, complete with 50-year-old television:

Also, this house is up for auction, currently listed at £17,000 (that's roughly $22,000). It’s not often that an abandoned property is up for auction still containing nearly all of its original furniture (at least not here in the States—I’m not sure how this process works over in the UK). I wonder what the eventual buyers will do with all the contents??

Most of the furniture in the house dates back to the 1970s, but various structural elements date way back to the 1920s or 1930s. Even with these dated elements, there is still plenty of restoration potential, which is why the home is up for auction in the first place.

The kitchen, for example, definitely needs some work:

This kind of restoration project is going to be massive for the buyer, as the house has suffered significant damage from nature over the years. The ceiling has collapsed in parts, and there are many indicators of damp and decaying plaster throughout. Whoever does end up getting it, though, I personally can’t wait to see what they do with it. The view from the backyard alone will surely be worth it.

And if old houses are your thing, check out this one I came across the other day.
