In Japan, sushi and sake don't traditionally go together. And that's kind of a weird concept, right? For those of us in the States, many restaurants and sushi bars are actually built upon the combination of sushi and sake—with Hapa Sushi being one of our favorites.

However, seeing as sake is made from rice, it makes sense as to why it's not paired together (at least, in Japan) because it's basically rice-on-rice. Instead, many "sushi connoisseurs" will recommend that you pair any rice-based dishes (i.e. sushi) with beer or wine.

But rice-on-rice be damned! Sake and sushi are great together—and we'll shout it out from the rooftops if we have to!

So, why do we recommend the sushi-sake combination?

Well, if you're not a fan of the fishy smell in your sushi, sake is a great way to nix that odor! Plus, both fish and rice have umami ingredients, so when they're combined, you get a sort of "synergistic" effect. Sushi and sake just work.

And at Hapa Sushi, you'll have plenty of sushi and sake options to try next time you visit, as its menu is quite extensive. So much so, you'll have to visit several times just to try all the different sushi-sake offerings! (We're not joking either—Hapa Sushi is home to one of the largest sake collections in all of Colorado!)
