For decades, the Coors Brewery has welcomed its guests for free. But soon, that's all going to change ...
The Coors Brewery is a staple in Golden and has been a popular tourist attraction for decades, as it's the world's largest single-site brewery.
And the best part? It's always been free. Until now.
Starting on March 28, the brewery will start charging guests for tours of the plant at $10 per person. However, if you're a Colorado resident, the price drops down to $5! And for active duty or veterans (with military ID) and anyone under 21, the tour will still be free.
"The price puts us in line with other experiences both at your breweries, including Milwaukee, and other breweries across the country," said Coors spokesman Marty Maloney.
With the price changes comes another change: the tour can be taken with a live guide. Previously, the tour was self-paced and -guided.
The tour includes a look at the malting, brewing, and packaging processes, as well as receiving three 8-ounce beer samples and a commemorative glass. For tour hours and more, visit the Miller Coors website.
The beer industry has defined Golden since Coors opened its doors in 1873.
"The city understands that the beer industry is rapidly changing and Coors will need to modify its business practices from time to time to remain competitive and successful," Golden City Manager Jason Slowinski said in a statement. "The city will continue to explore ways to work with Coors and our local business community to ensure the success of both."
