National Mac and Cheese Day is Tuesday, July 14!

It’s time to dive into cheese, cheese, and more cheese. Oh, and maybe some pasta to go with it. Whether the cheese of choice is white cheddar, sharp cheddar, parmesan, gouda, or even mozzarella, you can never have enough cheese to go along with the piping hot penne, campanelli, farfalle, cavatappi, or traditional elbow macaroni.

National Mac and Cheese Day is July 14. Check out our picks for the best places for mac and cheese in Richmond.

1213-1215 Summit Avenue / Richmond, Virginia 23230

Lunch/Supper!, located in Scott’s Addition, offers two buildings and one menu for lots of dining options. While it’s a side, the bacon mac and cheese is always my first decision before I even check out the menu.

415 N. 1st Street / Richmond, Virginia 23219

Located in Jackson Ward, Mama J’s Kitchen combines soul food and Grandma’s home cooking. Choose from fried chicken, pork chops, or crab cakes for the perfect Sunday dinner. Sides include cheese grits, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or rice. But really, it’s the mac and cheese that we want the most.

Mama J’s has been listed among the “50 Restaurants to Try Before you Die” by Thrillist and named one of the “25 Best Restaurants in Richmond” by Richmond Magazine.

4023 MacArthur Avenue / Richmond, Virginia 23227

The historic Bellevue neighborhood’s cozy eatery features local ingredients and home-cooked comfort food. The Mill’s take on mac and cheese consists of creamy cheese over penne pasta. Add in bacon, ham, or chicken for a big burst of flavor.

Return of the Mac Food Truck

We can’t get enough of the goodness of mac and cheese, so we’ve picked a bonus. The Return of the Mac food truck can be found around town at venues like Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, Ginter Park, and various places in Midlothian and Powhatan.

Queso, cheddar (Wisconsin or Vermont), or marina top your choice of noodles. The Mac Daddy is served in a tortilla bowl piled high with noodles and cheese, veggies, and a protein (chicken, pork, or carne asada) covered with shoestring fries.
