The cheap tickets are good for one day only on September 3.

Movie fans across the country can score $3 tickets for blockbuster movies this Labor Day weekend. The deal is part of a new holiday called “National Cinema Day” and will be valid on Saturday, September 3.

According to Statista.com, the average price of a movie ticket in 2021 was $9.57. When you consider add-ons for IMAX, 3D, and reclining seats, you could have sticker shock before you even make it to the concession stand. But, for one day only, almost every movie theater in the nation will be offering up $3 tickets for a standard seat, not including tax and booking fees.

The organization promoting the event, the Cinema Foundation, has a list of theaters near you that are participating.

Normally, the cheap movie ticket deals are restricted to older movies, but on National Cinema, you can see a variety of new and classic movies. Some of the films listed on the website include Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul, Breaking, The Invitation, and Bullet Train. In case you are one of the few people on the planet that haven’t seen Top Gun: Maverick, there are a few theaters that will be showing it along with older re-releases like Jaws and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Want something to snack on while you watch your $3 movie? Be sure to check theater chain apps and websites for deals on food and beverage. Membership programs at major theaters will give you points you can use towards tickets and food, along with freebies for your birthday or anniversary.

Traditionally, Labor Day weekend is the last hurrah before we all say goodbye to the lazy days of summer. It’s also one of the slowest holiday weekends for the theater industry as people head to the beach, parks, and backyards to soak up the last of the good weather.
