The company is holding curbside trick-or-treat events on two nights in late October.

The coronavirus may have put a damper on Halloween this year, but one company is stepping up to make the holiday special. Lowe’s Home Improvement is making sure kids don’t completely miss out on trick-or-treating by holding special drive-thru events at local stores. Lowe’s curbside trick-or-treat will take place at participating stores on Thursday, October 22, and Thursday, October 29, 2020. The event is free with registration that begins online on Saturday, October 10.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), trick-or-treating and popular events like Halloween carnivals put people at risk for the contracting the coronavirus. Instead, the government agency recommends people celebrate with small, socially distanced outdoor parties, car parades, and drive-thru events.

Lowe’s has created an event that will allow children to get out of the house while still following the CDC’s guidance on celebrating.

"We know that customers still want to celebrate Halloween, even if the holiday may look different for us this year. While the pandemic has changed many elements of everyday life, the tradition of trick-or-treating doesn't have to be one of them," said Joe McFarland, Lowe's executive vice president of stores. "Our associates take great pride in serving our communities, and as we all find new ways to safely celebrate the holiday, we look forward to welcoming families to our drive-through curbside trick-or-treating events this year.”

Each child registered for the event will receive candy and a pumpkin that can be picked up curbside on their assigned day. Costumes are encouraged but not a requirement! To find a store near you and register your children, go to lowes.com/DIY.

Home improvement has been one of the bright spots in this coronavirus economy. Consumers have shunned traveling and entertainment and instead have focused on home repair and remodel. In order to reward employees for their continued hard work, the company announced it would pay out another $100 million in bonuses in October. This is the sixth time Lowe's has issued bonuses to all employees inlcuding part-time and seasonal workers.
