You have until Monday, February 24, to enter for a chance to attend this year’s Easter Egg Roll.

The ticket lottery is officially open for this year’s Easter Egg Roll at the White House. The annual event gives the public an opportunity to celebrate Easter with the President, First Lady, and the Easter Bunny, of course. This year’s White House Easter Egg Roll will take place on Monday, April13, 2020, the day after Easter. Tickets are free, and the lucky winners will be notified by email.

The White House Easter Egg Roll began in 1878 as a citywide event. After hordes of people destroyed the grass at the U.S. Capitol, Congress passed a law prohibiting egg rolling on Capitol grounds. President Rutherford B. Hayes and his wife Shirley were the first to hold the egg roll event at the White House. The public was invited to the egg roll until 1939 when the Secret Service had to restrict the number of attendees.

Each year children and their families are treated to fun Easter activities, treats, and (of course) the egg roll. Attendees use wooden eggs created for the event, each one signed by the President and First Lady. The same eggs will be available for purchase through the White House gift shop in sets of five on March 12.

To enter the lottery, visit recreation.gov and submit your information by Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, at 10 a.m. The event is open to children under age 13, and each household may claim up to six tickets (only one application per household). At least one adult must attend with the children. Winners of the White House Easter Egg Roll lottery will be notified by email on Wednesday, March 4, 2020.
